FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is pastoral counseling and how does it compare to coaching?
What are your qualifications?
What types of issues do you address?
The pastoral counseling approach is unique in that it combines a theological or biblical approach with psychological disciplines. It uses a biblical lens to consider the various scientific evidence for how our experiences, thoughts, emotions, and behaviors shape our lives and relationships.
Christian coaching helps you align life goals with your faith and values. It is is different from counseling in that is puts the client in the driver's seat to discover solutions and pathways forward. The coach primarily focuses on listening well to develop a deep understanding of your perspective and situation in order to ask helpful, clarifying questions that help bring to light the best options before you.
I have a bachelor's degree in Interpersonal Communication and a master's degree in Pastoral Counseling. I am certified by the American Association for Sex Addiction Therapy (AASAT) as a Sexual Recovery Pastoral Counselor (SRPC). I also attended seminary to study cross-cultural missions and Bible and obtained two additional master's degrees in Organizational Leadership and Intercultural Studies. I have served in full-time Christian ministry and leadership positions since 2010. I'm a certified facilitator for the Prepare/Enrich and SYMBIS marriage/pre-marriage assessments.
In the coaching realm, I am a Certified Life Coach as well as a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach.
I specialize in working with male clients who desire to recover from the negative effects of sexual addiction including pornography, infidelity, and the relationship issues that often result from unwanted sexual behaviors. I also provide couples and premarital counseling.
In coaching, I specialize in strengths coaching- helping people know what they do well, discover their passions, and realize how to use their strengths in a God-honoring way. I am also a Certified Life Coach.
I also use the Peace Pursuit method of conflict resolution to coach individuals or groups on how to reconcile differences in a biblical way. My strengths coaching and conflict resolution methods can be used in numerous settings- personal, professional, individual, couples, or teams.
